Experimental Prototype Controller for Xbox One Emits Smells

If you thought Microsoft was pushing the limits with their bold ideas then you were right. It seems as though the company was definitely brainstorming outside of the box when they designed an Xbox One controller that could emit smells.

The prototype never actually made it out of the R&D Department and according to VentureBeat the smell generating controller is now housed in the company archives.

The sample model was constructed to produce smells in order to match the events taking place onscreen. Xbox general manager for accessories Zulfi Alam stated, “We built small slugs of different types of smells that could actually come out of a controller, like as you walked through a jungle you’d smell the flora.”

Unfortunately, players will not be able to get their hands on this rarity as the controller never made it out of the prototype stage.

Additionally, Microsoft has spent over 100 million dollars researching the Xbox One controller to get it right for players. Zulfi proclaims that the company invested a lot due to vast engineering work, process technology, and the tooling of the device.

With the next generation console launching I’m certain gamers across the globe will be sharing their opinions on the Xbox One controller and hardware that was obviously crafted by innovative minds.
